First Visit

Your Child’s First Dental Visit

Parents’ know the excitement, and maybe some relief, when their baby gets his or her first tooth!  At Norman Pediatric dentistry we can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with you when you come for your child’s first visit. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, as well as the American Dental Association recommends your child’s first visit occur no later than 6 months after the first tooth appears. This first visit usually happens somewhere around six to twelve months old. The Oklahoma Dental Association recommends this appointment to establish a dental home, which is exactly what we hope to do. We want to make sure your child’s first visit with us is a great experience. It will be fun, and interactive. We will look at your child’s mouth and may or may not clean. We will likely wait to do radiographs until your child is older. Our focus is to make you and your child comfortable with us and the dental experience, while also evaluating your child’s dental health. Following an examination Dr. Ward will discuss with you any oral hygiene and dietary routines that could affect your child’s oral health. She will also be able to answer any questions you may have. We will partner with you to help keep your child’s smile healthy.

At Norman Pediatric Dentistry our role is to assist parents in raising healthy children with healthy smiles, and this first visit is a step toward that. Not only will this first visit establish relationships and a comfortable environment, but it will also give your child their best chance of preventing dental problems in the future.
